Wikipedia, A reliable Source?

http://www.bewitched.com/historyflow.html

Martin Wattenberg makes crazy mind blowing information legible. He believes Wikipedia is a reliable resource (don’t tell your high school history teacher) and he can prove it. Wattenberg built a program which tracks the edits on Wikipedia articles and generates images displaying the editing behavior. The images reveal episodes of Wiki vandalism, deletion, and arguments between editors. The constant edits on controversial topics reveal that despite being available to all, Wikipedia stewards and vigilantes do their best to ensure that the information is accurate and reliable.

Ben Fry is a co-author of Processing. He got his doctorate from MIT Media Lab’s Aesthetics and computation group. His work deals with visualizing large amounts of confusing information in aesthetically appealing and accessible ways. Lately he has been working with genetics information. The project comparing human DNA and animal DNA uses color, lines, text size etc. to catalog millions of pieces of information in a legible way, which is an important bridge between scientists who understand the raw data and the curious who don’t.
