My full name is Amy Su and I like to be called Amy. My classmates would be surprised to know that I’ve never seen a Star Wars movie. Ever. When I was little I wanted to be a dentist or teacher when I grew up. My dream today is to eventually have my own studio/company making various things–furniture, lighting, clothing, sculpture. My favourite possession is my computer (but really the Internet) and it means the world to me because it allows me to communicate with others and opens up the worlds of others to me. I’m here because I’m interested in how people interact with one another. I’m interested in how interactions are translated into design and I hope this studio will excite and inspire me to learn and possibly pursue an area of design I didn’t have much experience in. I’m also very interested in film/video as a medium of communication.
My full name is Andrew Tot Bui and I like to be called Andrew. My classmates would be surprised to know that I fully intended to be an international businessman/physicist before ending up here. When I was little I wanted to be a (mad) scientist when I grew up. My dream today is to be satisfied with making things that help people in little ways. My favourite possession is my really old T-shirt with gel glue and it means the world to me because I’ve been wearing it since it was below my knees. I’m here because I feel limited with my current skill set and I hope this studio will allow me to make the bad and good things I can think up.
My full name is Arthur Harsuvanakit and I like to be called Arthur. My classmates would be surprised to know that I saw a red robin today walking to class. When I was little I wanted to be a blue whale when I grew up. My dream today is die laughing. My favourite possession is my perspective and it means the world to me because each of us has a different one and without it we would not be us. I’m here because I’m interested in human potential as well as my own and I hope this studio will kick my ass and vice versa.
My full name is Carolyn May Spinney and I like to be called Carolyn. My classmates would be surprised to know that I sing and enjoy performance art. When I was little I wanted to be a movie director when I grew up. My dream today is to be a great thinker. My favourite possession is my computer and it means the world to me because I am always on it. I am able to store and create information through this tool. I’m here because I am interested in the relation between humans and technology and I hope this studio will enhance my knowledge about programming and interfaces.
My full name is Elena Riccio and I like to be called Elena. My classmates would be surprised to know that I was born in Paraguay. Currently working on creating my own recorded album. When I was little I wanted to be a painter when I grew up. My dream today is to be a successful entrepreneur. My favourite possession is my ring and it means the world to me because it was passed onto me by my family. I’m here because I want to learn more about technology of today and how it works and I hope this studio will give me experience in new programs and media.
My full name is Heesung Kim and I like to be called Heesung. My classmates would be surprised to know that I can’t swim. When I was little I wanted to be a president when I grew up. My dream today is to be an industrial designer or getting a job (pretty sad). My favourite possession is my old watch that I bought from a random second hand store and it means the world to me because it’s been always with me wherever I went. I’m here because I would like to learn more about technology and I hope this studio will help me to catch up some cool tricks and technology that will help me with my future career.
My full name is Jennifer Lee and I like to be called Jenni. My classmates would be surprised to know that I have lived in 10 different homes in 4 states and 2 countries. And I have small pinky fingers. When I was little I wanted to be a fashion designer when I grew up. My dream today is to be an industrial designer/entrepreneur. My favourite possession is my iPhone/computer and it means the world to me because I would be completely lost without them. I’m here because I like technology but have no idea how they work and I hope this studio will teach me new things and experiences!
My full name is Maia Garau and I like to be called Maia. People would be surprised to know that on my first day living in Kenya as a child I had my lunch stolen by a baboon. When I was little I wanted to be a writer/architect when I grew up. My dream today is to be a learner all my life. My favourite possession is my dog, although he’s not mine to own but mine to take care of. He means the world to me because he is always curious and excited, and reminds me about what matters. I’m here because RISD students are incredible and I hope this studio will surprise me.
My full name is Matthew Cottam and I like to be called Matt. People would be surprised to know that I delivered six babies in 12 hours–all girls. When I was little I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up. My dream today is to circumnavigate the earth in a sailboat. My favourite “possession” is my dog Bruno and he means the world to me because he is waiting for me right now and has brown furry ears. I’m here because I don’t know what is next and I hope this studio will bring me new friends and ideas.
My full name is Miriam Zisook and I like to be called Miriam. My classmates would be surprised to know that I used to be really obsessed with set design. When I was little I wanted to be an artist or author when I grew up. My dream today is to be a designer of products for people with special needs. My favourite possession are my family’s candlesticks and they mean the world to me because big risks were taken so we could have them and they are part of my history. I’m here because I believe technology can create new opportunities for underserved communities and I hope this studio will give me the tools to explore these opportunities.

When I was little I wanted to be a fireman when I grew up. My dream today is to be a freelance outdoor product tester. My favourite possession is my frisbee and it means the world to me because it symbolizes freedom. I’m here because I think technolgy is cool and I hope this studio will teach me cool things (about technology).

When I was little I wanted to be a builder when I grew up. My dream today is to be a builder of awesome things to enjoy. My favourite possessions are my bicycles and they mean the world to me because they are beautiful and fun and simple and efficient. My lip piercing now covers it. When I was little I wanted to be an apparel designer when I grew up. My dream today is to be a ??. My favourite possession is my stuffed bear and it means the world to me because I’ve had it most of my life. I’m here because I am interested in technology and hope to learn more about it and I hope this studio will do that.
My full name is Stephanie Tam and I like to be called Stephanie/Steph. My classmates would be surprised to know that I can karaoke like nobody’s business. When I was little I wanted to be an ice skater when I grew up. My dream today is to be a designer/traveler/happy. My favourite possession is my camera and it means the world to me because ut captures moments and bits of life that I wouldn’t be able to hold onto otherwise. I’m here because I want to learn about things I don’t know! and I hope this studio will teach me these things and generally make me more skillful as a designer.

When I was little I wanted to be a race car driver when I grew up. My dream today is to be an under the radar trouble maker in the social realm. My full name is William Min and I like to be called Will. My classmates would be surprised to know that I smoked for 6 years when I was the captain of my high school swim team. When I was little I wanted to be an inventor/architect when I grew up. My dream today is to be an industrial designer/architect. My favourite possession is my laptop and it means the world to me because it has everything! I’m here because I wanted to be here and I hope this studio will help me improve my programming skills and give me new ideas
My full name is Yasemin Etikan and I like to be called Yasemin. My classmates would be surprised to know that I ski since I was 2. I play soccer on playstation with my brother and I’m really good at it. I started playing the piano when I was 4. When I was little I wanted to be a singer/artist/architect when I grew up. My dream today is to do what I love and learn more things all my life. And enjoy thoughtful and enjoyable/playful products/experiences/environments. My favourite possession is my necklace from my grandmother and it means the world to me because my grandmother got it made for me. I’m here because I am interested in the interaction between virtual and real world and I hope this studio will provide me with insight to these type of designs because right now I have no idea about how these things work. And in the end I’ll be capable of designing interactions etc.
